    • Masks mandate will be lifted in most indoor settings in Victoria from Friday
    • Premier Daniel Andrews confirmed overhaul to Covid restrictions on Wednesday
    • Face coverings will only be required on public transport and in airports/planes
    • Students in Year 3 and above at primary school must continue to wear masks
    • Retail and hospitality workers will also still be required to use face coverings
    • Mr Andrews has informed companies to instruct workers to return to offices

Victoria will finally ditch masks in all but a handful of locations from Saturday after slashing other Covid rules last week.

Premier Daniel Andrews said fewer hospital patients and a booster rate of more than 55 per cent meant restrictions could be eased back to pre-Omicron levels.

Masks will only be mandatory on public transport and taxis, in airports, hospitals, indoor areas of care facilities from 11.59pm on Friday.

‘The last three or four months, we have been better off in New South Wales and Victoria and the country has been better off because the two biggest states have worked hard to try and have the similar rules,’ Premier Dan Andrews said in a press conference on Wednesday morning.

‘As I said on Thursday, I was very confident we would get to this place and here we are, same rules as Sydney, masks off and people back in the office from the end of this week. That is a good outcome.’
