The Israel Defense Forces and the Shin Bet security service launched a large-scale offensive early Monday morning, seeking to \u201cthwart the threat of terrorism\u201d<\/em> across the West Bank. The joint operation allegedly targeted a militant headquarters in Jenin city\u2019s refugee camp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The IDF confirmed that it struck \u201cterror infrastructure\u201d<\/em> in the city around 2am, claiming that the Jenin camp had been turned into a \u201cterrorist stronghold.\u201d<\/em> The military said it raided a joint headquarters of multiple armed groups which \u201cserved as an observation post, a gathering place for armed terrorists before and after terror acts, a cache for munitions and bombs and a communications center.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe will not standby idle while terrorists continue to harm civilians using Jenin Camp as a hideout,\u201d<\/em> the Israeli military added in a brief press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are acting to dismantle this hornets nest,\u201d<\/em> an Israeli military spokesman,  Lt. Col. Richard Hecht, said in a tweet, claiming that \u201coperational sites used by terrorists\u201d<\/em> are \u201clocated next to schools, a medical center and civilian houses.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Palestinian health ministry, at least one citizen was killed and another seriously injured during the raid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Israel occupied the West Bank during the 1967 Six-Day War and began to build new settlements in the territory. The UN Security Council has declared those actions to have \u201cno legal validity\u201d<\/em> and to constitute \u201ca flagrant violation under international law.\u201d<\/em> However, Israel disputes that position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
