Sky News host Peta Credlin says Victorians are once more living under the threat of lockdowns after the Andrews government put the interests of the Australian Open “over and above the lives” of Victorians.
“Well it hasn’t taken long has it, for the incompetence and spin that passes for government in Victoria to again dominate the headlines,” she said. Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced on Wednesday the reinstatement of restrictions for all Victorians following a positive COVID-19 test result from an Australian Open hotel quarantine worker.
Ms Credlin says it “speaks volumes for this clown’s priorities” to push ahead with the Australian Open “without our consent” and in doing so risk the “lives, freedoms and economic recovery” of Victoria.
As a result of the new coronavirus case, the premier announced that from 11:59 on Wednesday night the New Year’s Eve restriction settings would be reinstated.
Private gatherings will be limited to 15 only, and masks will be mandatory inside for private and public gatherings. Ms Credlin said there has never been a “more incompetent government” than the Andrews government particularly given how the premier praised the hotel quarantine worker for following all the protocols. “If it’s not the quarantine worker Dan, it’s your system. It’s a failure of your protocols and it’s a failure of your judgment to host an event like the Open in Melbourne at this time.”
