Victoria is now a ‘surveillance state’

    Sky News Australia – Sep 2, 2020

Victorian Liberal MP James Newbury says Victoria has become a surveillance state following the six-month extension of Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews’ state of emergency powers.

After a parliament sitting which went through Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning, the bill extending Mr Andrews’ state of emergency powers by six months was passed through the Upper House.

“We know that Daniel Andrews is watching all Victorians, we are now living in a surveillance state,” Mr Newbury told Sky News host Peter Gleeson.

“On day one after the laws passing the Upper House, an emboldened premier clearly has been shown to be surveilling the state.

“A pregnant woman was arrested in Ballarat … what it’s showing is that if you criticise Daniel Andrews you might be subject to a police visit or a police arrest.

    “It’s un-Australian, in fact it’s scary.”
