Fwiw the fact few of the photo’s presented show ghosting artifacts of moving people, doesn’t mean the places photographed where ‘ghost cities’ in the wake of recent mass depopulation, as a simpler possibility is that it might just been a tradition among photographers of the time, to deliberately publish photos, without such artifacts, both choosing to photograph scenes shortly after dawn, while few were up and about, and then cleaning images after the fact by various methods, as it could be argued publishing photos with ghosting artifacts were probably considered unprofessional, so to be avoided or masked if at all possible.
