Several federal ministers were convened at a top secret meeting in Canberra on Wednesday, ahead of the major international development expected from the United States on Thursday morning.
Development-savvy sources said some members of the cabinet were granted a border exemption to urgently fly to Canberra for a rush-arranged meeting.

Defense Minister Peter Dutton and Foreign Minister Marise Payne are allegedly in Washington for a series of meetings over the next two days, but attended the meeting through a secure connection.
Opposition leader Anthony Albanese and three other senior members on his front bench were also given the rare opportunity to be briefed on a very delicate issue.

Some Allied lawmakers told the masthead that he was rushed to dial a rare conference call Thursday at 9:30 am, but no one knew the reason for the briefing.
An important announcement for the US and UK governments is also expected to be made at 7 am Australian time.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison will visit Washington next week for a quad alliance meeting that includes the United States, India, Japan and Australia. Morrison will have his first face-to-face meeting with US President Joe Biden during the trip.
Mr. Dutton and Senator Payne will meet in person with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.
