Melbourne reopening brought to a screeching halt as regional Victoria surges ahead

    Sky News Australia – Oct 25, 2020

Premier Daniel Andrews has once again postponed plans to reopen metropolitan Melbourne as he marches forward restriction changes across regional Victoria.

Attempting to justify his decision to keep Melbourne restrictions in place Mr Andrews said “I know people are keen to have a long and detailed list of changes to the rules. It is not appropriate for us to do that now”.

However, given the low case numbers in regional areas he announced substantial for regional Victoria, easing limitations on religious gatherings, gyms and funerals.

From 11:59pm on October 27 gyms and fitness studios will reopen in regional Victoria, to a maximum of 20 people along with religious gatherings with no more than on person per eight square metres.

Indoor gatherings will now be increased to allow a maximum of 20 people and outdoor gatherings can have up to 50 people.

The premier congratulated the people of Shepparton for working with health authorities to limit the spread of the virus.

“I can confirm from 11:59pm tonight, greater Shepparton will also come into alignment with the rest of regional Victoria, with hospitality venues moving to up to 40 people inside,” he said.
