    1. They didn’t catch of for the same reasons drivers are experiencing today…The electric autos do not go very far on a single charge…
It is pretty hard to get around the fact that fuel provides the most efficiency when the heat (energy) is used directly to perform the work required. Normally, gasoline is burned in an internal combustion engine and converted directly into motion.
Electric cars use stored energy in a battery to power electric motors.
The energy needed to charge the battery was generated by burning some form of fuel at a power generating plant and transferred via electric cables to a home where it is used to charge the automobile’s battery.
If you add up the various stages the electricity must go to eventually power an auto down the road, they are staggering!
The line losses from transmission to the charging site and the loss of energy while charging the autos battery just to name a few of the 18+ ways energy is lost between the fuel burnt at the power plant and the introduction of the electricity to the electric motors in the electric auto.
It is easy to see, electric autos are not at all useful in mitigating climate change, if fact they cause more harm than good.

      1. You may be correct but here’s my question though Dr Donnie Smith.
How did they recharge their electric vehicles in the early 1800’s when power stations/plants weren’t invented until the late 1800’s and homes weren’t connected until the early 1900’s?
What was the used as the source to recharge the batteries?
        Look forward to your reply.
